Raiders hire Habscheid as new head coach

Nov 1, 2014 | 11:24 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders announced on Saturday that Marc Habscheid will be their new head coach moving forward.

The statement comes just one day after the Raiders revealed that they parted ways with former head coach Cory Clouston.

Habscheid has a Memorial Cup victory under his belt as a head coach of the Kelowna Rockets in the 2003-2004 season. Current Raiders assistant coach Kelly Guard was his goaltender at the time as well.

In 2003, Habscheid was named the CHL Coach of the Year. He has played and coached in the NHL, and has coached for Team Canada at the World Junior and World championships.

“This is a very exciting day for me as I look forward to returning to coaching in my home province”, said Habscheid in a release, who hails from Swift Current. “I am very grateful to have the opportunity to join the Raiders and be part of this community”.
