Piece of P.A. history donated to local museum

A little piece of history has been removed from the former Prince Albert train station.

On Wednesday morning the “Prince Albert” sign on the building was taken off and will be donated to the Prince Albert Historical Society.

Mayor Greg Dionne said the sign is one of the original CN station signs and was once home to an active train station, built in 1958.

“We thought it was important to keep heritage in our community,” he said.

Dionne said they contacted the president of the museum and they were happy to get the sign.

“There’s not many of them left,” he said.

Dionne reached out to James Wishart, the owner of SOS Electrical Company, to participate in the project. SOS removed the sign free of charge and Wishart said he was happy to be a part of it.

“I just thought it would be a good thing to do … I like history and its preserving history,” he said.

Dan Resser, with SOS, took down the sign.

“It’s pretty interesting to be a part of Prince Albert’s history,” he said.

Dionne said the sign was donated by the current owners of the building and it will soon be given to the museum.  Once the museum has it, they will work to figure out which area will be the best place to display it.
