Blades battle back to beat Raiders 3-2
Cory Millette’s shot from the left wing boards that banked in off Raider defenseman Brendan Guhle, ended Saskatoon’s season starting franchise futility record capping a 3-2 come from behind win at Credit Union Centre.
The victory is the Blades first in 7-games to start the season and extends the Raiders losing streak to three.
The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on Reid Gardiner’s close in jam shot at 13:14 and Simon Stransky’s first ever WHL on a PA power play at 15:03.
The Blades got on the board early in the 2nd as former Raider draft choice Landon Welykholowa ripped a slapper from the point that hit a Raider on it’s way into the top corner.
Wyatt Sloboshan tied the game at 10:30 of the third period finding the five hole on Rylan Parenteau from close range after working in off the left wing boards setting the stage for the Blade bounce that would win the game.
Parenteau was excellent in his first start of the season with show stopping glove saves off Sam McKechnie in the first period and Adam Henry in the second. On that play Parenteau had to scramble into position after being knocked down with a puck to the mask on the original shot. He would make 34 saves on the night while Saskatoon’s Alex Moodie stopped 21 to post the victory.
The Raiders had a chance to tie it in the final minute when their power play in the final 1:47 turned into a 6-on-3 for the final 15-seconds with Parenteau already pulled for a sixth attacker.
Ironically, Millette’s winner came moments after the Raiders killed off a 5-on-3 Blades power play for 1:48.
Jayden Hart assisted on both Raider goals while Captain Josh Morrissey picked up his first point of the season with a helper on Stransky’s goal.
The Raiders will try to end a three game losing streak Wednesday in Moose Jaw while opening a five game home stand on October 17th.
