Grieving mother awaits answers

The Saskatoon police service is investigating the circumstances surrounding a woman’s death in Northern Saskatchewan.

Adelle Jennifer Morin,39,was found unresponsive in her cell Monday night at Sandy Bay RCMP detachment.

According to her mother, Adelle was intoxicated when she was initially picked up by police.

“I phoned to the Sandy Bay detachment and I told them not to pick up my daughter because she was ill. She couldn’t stand the cell,” said Marie Morin.

The reason for Morin’s request was that her daughter had a history of seizures, and Morin was concerned what would happen if her daughter was left alone.

“I said if you pick up my daughter, take her somewhere she can sober up. I don’t want her going into a cell,” she said.

Later that day, Adelle would be found unresponsive in her cell. Paramedics were called but it was already too late. Adelle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morin said her daughter has five children, ranging in age from 12 to 22. She added they are all taking the news very hard.

Morin herself is no stranger to loss. Last year in Saskatoon, her daughter Clara died, found frozen outside. Clara’s death was also alcohol related.

“I’d like to request help from a lawyer to find out the cause of these deaths of my two children,” said Morin.

The funeral for Adelle Morin will take place Saturday in Sandy Bay.

The RCMP would not comment on Morin’s accusations, explaining the matter is now in the hands of the Saskatoon Police service and details surrounding the woman’s death would be part of the investigation by the independent observer.
