A driver of a school bus carrying children in Prince Albert has been “pulled from service” by his employer and police have charged him after the bus hit a car in an intersection on Thursday morning.

First Canada, which operates the school buses, said that it is investigating the incident.

The accident sent a five-year-old boy and his father, the driver of the vehicle, to the hospital, according to the Prince Albert Fire Department.

The school bus was travelling east through the intersection of 22nd Street West and Sixth Avenue West the car was travelling northbound.

A Prince Albert Police officer at the scene of the accident said none of the children on the bus were hurt. Police at the scene said the school bus driver ran a stop sign.

After the accident, the fire department moved the children to another bus. Fire crews cleaned up debris in the intersection.

According to police, they will be laying an undue care and attention charge against the school bus driver.

Cst. Rob Lindsay, who was also at the scene said undue care and attention means anything from cellphone usage to not paying attention.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of the story stated the school bus driver was “suspended” but he is still employed with the company with pay while the investigation process takes place.
