Woman dies in custody

A 39-year-old woman being held in custody at Sandy Bay, is dead.

The woman, who lives in the community, was found unresponsive in her cell Monday night.  Paramedics were called in, but the woman was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Saskatoon Police Service Major Crime Unit is handling the investigation. They will report the results of their investigation to the ministry of justice.

In addition to the independent external investigation, the RCMP has requested the ministry of justice appoint an Independent Observer.

 The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
