Two pre-teen boys are facing charges after they shot at a Prince Albert house with a pellet gun on Sunday.

A homeowner in the 300 block of 15th Street West called the police after the sound of a loud crack woke them up. They looked outside and saw someone run away from their yard.

Prince Albert Police officers arrived at the scene at 3:30 a.m., and found that a picture window’s pane had a hole in it. They then started a search using Jagger the police dog.

Jagger, who was recently bitten by a fleeing suspect in another incident, led officers to the 400 block of 14th Street West, where officers saw two boys walking. They then ran away when they saw the officers.

Police caught one boy close to that spot, and they found the other boy hiding in a garage in the 300 block of 15th Street West. He had broken into the garage.

The officers’ investigation led them to conclude that the suspects used a pellet gun. Police have not found the pellet gun.

A 12 year old and a 13 year old face charges. One will face charges of mischief and breach of undertaking and the other will face charges of mischief and break and enter.

The police have been getting numerous reports about acts of vandalism each weekend over the last few months, Sgt. Brandon Mudry said. He added that many of these involve damage to vehicles.

“It has been something that we’re dealing with here as a community, and again, we just hope that people take all their valuables out of your cars,” he said.

He said they are seeing the acts of wilful damage spread throughout the city. But with cold weather, he’s hoping to see a decline in such incidents.

“But again it will come down to … vigilance here in the community, both in the police and the public’s part.”

It wasn’t the only incident that kept the police busy this weekend.

Police went out to a business in the 200 block of 32nd Street West at 9: 25 a.m. to investigate a report of a stolen vehicle.

The driver had left the vehicle running, unattended for a few moments while he ran into a business. When he went back outside, his vehicle wasn’t there.

Less than an hour later, the police saw someone driving the stolen vehicle in the 200 block of 33rd Street West. The driver pulled into a parking lot in the 3300 block of Second Avenue West, and parked behind a business.

A man got out of the vehicle and began to run southbound, leaving his female passenger inside. She stayed behind to talk to the police. According to Mudry, the woman wasn’t aware the vehicle was stolen.

A number of officers went to the scene and helped to find the man a short distance away.

A 20-year-old man is now facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and breach of probation.  According to police, he made his first court appearance at the Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday.

The incidents were among the 258 calls for service that the police responded to. Police arrested 59 people, 29 of which were arrested for public intoxication.
