Local Mixed-Martial Arts (MMA) pro fighter Ryan Rohovich is competing in Grande Prairie, Alta. on Oct. 24.

This is Rohovich’s first lightweight fight; he will be competing in the 155 pound (lbs) category.

Rohovich said he has been training for about two-and-a-half years now. He said he has fought in six fights in total and two Jiu Jitsu tournaments.  His amateur record is 5-0.

Rohovich has always loved MMA fighting.

“As a kid I loved watching wrestling and fighting and the UFC back when it wasn’t even as big as it is now,” said Rohovich.

Rohovich enjoys jiu jitsu but said he is strongest on the ground.  His component, is from Progressive Fighting Academy (PFA) in Lethbridge, Alta. Rohovich said his opponent is more of a Muay Thai fighter, which is a stand-up striker.

Rohovich plans to go into the fight and push the pace.

“Just to go in there and over power him and be the most dominant fighter, the aggressor,” said Rohovich.

This is Rohovich’s second pro fight and he said the training is the same every time.

“I’ve basically been training the way I always do, with the Kickboxing and the Jiu Jitsu,” said Rohovich. “I don’t train specifically one thing for my opponent because you have to be able to know everything, its Mixed Martial Arts.”

Rohovich’s pro record is 0-1.
