The Victoria Hospital Foundation has set a lofty goal for this year’s “Give a Little Life” campaign, and that’s why they are getting started early with fundraising.

The foundation hopes to raise $400,000. The money will go towards the pediatric and nursing units at Victoria Hospital.

Executive Director of the Victoria Hospital Foundation, Sherry Buckler, explains these units see a lot of action.

“Our nursery for example was built for probably a thousand babies a year, but right now we are delivering over 1,500 babies a year,” she said.

In addition, over a thousand sick children are admitted to the pediatrics unit each year. The equipment itself is very important and having enough equipment to go around can make a huge difference for the hospital staff.

“For example if you have more babies that require treatment for jaundice, staff have to do some juggling and that can be stressful on them as well as on the parents,” said Buckler.

The radio – a – thon, hosted by Rawlco Radio, will take place December 5th, but a number of local businesses have started raising money through their own special initiatives.

Buckler encourages people to share their ideas

“If you have an idea, we can help you. We can help promote it, we can come down, we can even roll up our sleeves,” said Buckler.

The Victoria Hospital offers support to 52 surrounding communities, including 12 First Nations.

The Rawlco radio-a-thon will run from 6a.m. to 6p.m. on December 5th.
