Harvest reaches halfway mark

According to this week’s crop report, harvest is more than halfway complete in the Prince Albert and Shellbrook areas.

Fifty-three per cent of the crop is in the bin, a big jump from last week when harvest was at 28 per cent complete.

The northeast region, which includes Melfort and Nipawin, is further along at 75 per cent complete — that’s up from 45 per cent last week.

Provincially, 68 per cent of the crop has been combined.

A few consistent days of warm, dry weather had a big assist in the progress being made.

Across the province, topsoil moisture conditions are listed as 17 per cent surplus, 78 per cent adequate, and five per cent short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as eight per cent surplus, 85 per cent adequate and seven per cent short.

Strong winds caused some damage this week.
