Best Campground : Sandy Bay Candle Lake

Candle Lake Provincial Park is known for it’s clear waters and long sandy beaches, but the park also provides some of the nicest camping opportunities in the province as well.

paNOW readers agree that the parks popular Sandy Bay Campground deserves a bit of positive recognition and was voted as the Best Campground in 2014 for Best of the Best.

The Campground is located only a hop, skip and a jump away from the Provincial Parks Sandy Bay Beach. It offers beach access to more than 140 campsites and is a great destination for families looking to get away for the weekend.

“It’s just a really nice spot it’s a really sunny and bright beach,” said Rena Laliberte, parks supervisor at Candle Lake Provincial Park.

Laliberte said Sandy Bay was first declared a day picnic area in 1973. She said the beach at Sandy Bay is over 1 km long and the camping area tends to book up fast for July and August.

Sandy Bay campsite offers Barrier-free campsites, showers, washrooms, a trout pond and beach access. It is located on the West side of Candle Lake on Sandy Bay, off Hwy 120 on a paved road.
