Gene’s Sports Excellence specializes in cycling and is the best place in Prince Albert to shop for a new bike.

“We have been lucky to partner up with GIANT and  NORCO bicycles,” said Chad Levesque, a manager at Gene’s Sports Excellence.

“GIANT is the worlds largest bike manufacturer they produce close to 6 million bikes annually and a lot of the other high end companies in the industry are actually manufactured by GIANT, their frames are anyways,  so as far as quality and bang for your buck it is really hard to beat a GIANT bike.”

Staff at Gene’s Sports Excellence can supply each client with their specific cycling needs. They offer everything from mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX, comfortable hybrids or road mountain crossovers for recreational bikers.

“You don’t just walk into a bike shop anymore and say I want a bike and just get a generic bike,” said Levesque. “We can sit down and have a good conversation with our clients discuss the different types of riding that are out there and the different types of bikes that our out their to meet their cycling needs.”

Levesque said when you buy a department store level bike they are missing something called size specific geometry.

“As the bike gets taller, frame size wise it needs to correlate length size wise out to fit the geometry properly,” he said. “So when we deal with our clients we can sit down and make sure the bike is fitting them properly, all the math angles for the body are correct and make sure it is comfortable and properly positioned and also maximizing the energy return out of the pedal efficiency for them.”

“Are bikes are definitely a more specialized purchase and we can really fine tune that purchase to our clients and customers,” he added.

As mentioned Gene’s Sports Excellence also sells NORCO bikes, which is a Canadian made product.

“NORCO’s backyard is north shore Vancouver, they offer a really cool, unique bike for Canadian demographics,” said Levesque.

Other brands that are available at Gene’s Sports Excellence besides GIANT and NORCO  include: dk bicycles, EASTON, sunday, SUBROSA, HARO, PREMIUM, KINKBIKECO and SCOTT Bicycles.

Levesque said for the recreational rider most customers want to concentrate on comfort. He said the best bike for that is a spin off of the mountain bike that addresses the traditional uncomfortable areas of the mountain bike.

“Those that are accessing our Rotary Trail within the city of Prince Albert for the most part utilize the comfort hybrid bike,” said Levesque. “So they have a adjustable pitch control stem where you can customize your back angle to position your back so it’s in a more vertical position.”

Levesque said the hybrid bike also has a more comfortable riding style and wider saddle seat with anatomical stress release that help prevents soreness.

Gene’s Sports Excellence first opened its doors in 1972 and since then the store has grown into three locations and changed its name from Gene’s Cycling & Sport to Gene’s Sports Excellence. The stores current location is in downtown Prince Albert at 48 10th Street East.
