S.H.A.R.E. looks to replace stolen picnic table

As Prince Albert’s Self Help and Recreation Education program (S.H.A.R.E.) inches closer to beginning their roof repair they are dealing with another issue.

On Sept. 15, staff found one of their two picnic tables had been stolen sometime over the night.

Robin Knudsen, S.H.A.R.E.’s executive director, said the picnic tables are used by their clients to sit outside and enjoy a drink or smoke.

“We did do a tour around the neighbourhood, we drove around trying to find it thinking maybe somebody just picked it up and walked away with it. But on second thought, somebody must have drove in, picked it up and then took off.”

He said only having on table will be hard with having 40-plus clients that use their services.

“The [clients] are just wondering what happened and why someone would take a picnic table that’s been here for probably 10 years.”

When it comes to replacing the stolen picnic table, Knudsen said they’ll “probably purchase some lumber and get our guys to work on it and build a new one.”

“It’s just interesting to know that someone would walk away with a picnic table when we leave them out all year long and anyone is welcome to use them.”

He said if anyone has a picnic table they’d like to donate, or materials to build a new one, they would be more then appreciative of that.

“If anyone knows where it is, we’d gladly come and pick it up, no questions asked and bring it back. Or if someone just wants to bring it back and drop it off, that be great too, either way. We’re not out there to get anyone in trouble, we just want our table back.”

S.H.A.R.E. offers residential pre-vocational programs for people suffering from severe and persistent mental health and dual-diagnosis of substance abuse and mental health issues.
