Creating an Intentional Community

While traveling recently with a colleague who I hadn’t known very well, I couldn’t help but observe her behaviour over the number of days we were together.  Not only was she extremely polite to all the service personal, agents and other random folks that we encountered, she was very noticeably  sincere.

For example when someone said ‘have a nice day’ to her – with just her simple words of reply ‘you to,’ her voice, her pause, her cadence, her tone really made it sound like she really wished a goodness for the stranger.

After watching this behaviour repeat itself numerous times over numerous days, I finally commented and commended her for her actions.

Her response was profound, ‘No one deserves to feel invisible.’ she said. Hmmm.

No one deserves to feel invisible. What a beautiful thought to carry forward into our week.

Who would appreciate being acknowledged in your world? Who do you pass by without so much as a smile, a nod, a word of thanks or encouragement?

No one deserves to feel invisible. You have the power to change that.

On this week’s podcasted CJOB radio show Your Life, Unlimited –  I speak with Cornelius Buller, PhD. about Social Justice and how we can all do a small part to create positive change. He encouraged us to ensure the money we spend is making the world a better place. Buying free-trade chocolate and coffee is one way that we can help.

As well, I spoke with Dennis Maione about the launch of his new book, What I learned from Cancer.  There are plenty of insights in his words but I especially loved when he talked about creating an intentional community – a concept that can benefit us all whether illness is a part of our daily life or not.

You can enjoy the whole show here: Your Life, Unlimited with Dennis Maione and Cornelius Buller
