Trail run lets people enjoy the view

Fun was the name of the game at 39th annual Fun Run at Little Red River Park on Saturday. Roy Fremont, race director, said that the Prince Albert Triathlon club has hosted a fun run every spring and fall for the past few years.

One of the main purposes is to get people out into the Little Red to experience a trail run.

“It’s a good opportunity for people who may not have been on the river trail or are not familiar with any of the trails on the Red River Park to come out and at least find out what the river trail is like. That might give them a comfort level to do it on their own,” he said.

Even though the triathlon club is hosting it, Fremont said it is not a hardcore race. The event is open to anybody and always has a variety of participants.

Nine year old Jessica Gill started with the Prince Albert Triathlon Club last year and has participated in three runs since then.

“I just like to come out here and run,” she said. “It’s one of the funnest things I’ve ever done.”

13 year old Matt Gill is participating in the run for the third time.

“I like how it’s a trail run. I don’t really like running on cement and stuff. I like the hills and trails,” he said.

Craig Hollands said that this is his fourth time taking part in the run.

“It’s an absolute blast. Where else do you get to be with people and get a bit of exercise and throw some pizza in at the end?”

Mark Nagy, president of the triathlon club, said that he hopes to get more people out to upcoming runs.

“Little Red’s a beautiful place. A lot of people don’t come out here from Prince Albert, they don’t know what we’ve got here but this is a great place to run trails,” he said.
