PotashCorp is adding more workers to the payroll as it prepares for a rise in production heading into 2015.

“Certainly the market continues to be quite strong in the short term, particularly in the granular marker that really services the United States and parts of Brazil, and we want to make sure we're in a position to meet that demand,” PotashCorp spokesman Bill Johnson said.

The company isn't saying exactly how many workers are being brought back on. Johnson will say they're bringing some back to the Cory potash mine after hiring on a number of workers at the Lanigan mine earlier this year.

“Certainly anyone who follows our company knows that the market has been quite tight for the last couple of quarters, and we continue to see it being quite tight for the foreseeable future. It's not massive growth, but it's good strong, incremental growth,” Johnson added.

The move comes after PotashCorp slashed its workforce by 18 per cent last December. PotashCorp is the world's second largest producer of potash.
