Developing: Sask. gov’t approves reduced SaskPower rate hike
The Saskatchewan government has decided to reduce the rate increase that had been approved for SaskPower.
In April, the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel approved a 10.5 per cent system-average rate increase. A 5.5 per cent increase already went into effect on Jan. 1, 2014; the remaining 5.0 per cent was approved for Jan. 1, 2015.
On Wednesday, the province announced it will only allow SaskPower to implement a reduced portion of that hike, now at three per cent, in January.
“SaskPower is forecasting an improved financial outlook for 2015 and is therefore able to reduce the 2015 rate increase percentage from what was originally requested,” said minister responsible for SaskPower Bill Boyd in a statement.
