Driver clocked at 86km/hr in school zone

It's something Prince Albert Police Service is taking very seriously.

Last week Sgt. Brandon Mudry said police clocked a driver going 86 kilometres (km)/hour in a school zone—this is 56 km/hour over the posted speed limit.

Mudry said the police officer seized the vehicle as a result.

Since Sept. 2, 119 speeding tickets have been issued for driving too fast in school zones, an alarming number according to Mudry.

“Obviously the rate of speed is a huge concern. The kids certainly are unpredictable pedestrians, whether they’re walking or on their bike, so there are those speed limits in place in those zones for a specific reason and that’s so people will slow down to a safe rate of speed,” Mudry said.

Police will continue to monitor school zones for speeders.

Tickets issued under the Bylaw for speeding in a school zone start at $210.
