Members of the Prince Albert Fire Department held a Fill the Boot campaign in front of Canadian Tire on Saturday to raise money for muscular dystrophy.

Holding firefighter boots, members of the PAFD stood outside of the building to collect donations.

Adam Dziadyk, a member of the Prince Albert Fire Department’s charity committee said that since there is no cure for muscular dystrophy, they try to help out as much as they can by fundraising.

“Firefighters are the largest network of supporters for muscular dystrophy across Canada so we’re just doing our part just like every other city in Canada’s doing,” he said.

Last year, $5000 was raised and was matched by Malcom Jenkins, owner of Canadian Tire.

“[Jenkins] is also on board this year, matching the $5000 so we’re hoping for a similar 10,000 total,” Dziadyk said Saturday morning, minutes after setting up.

The PAFD was happy about the large showing of support last year.

“Last year, by raising 10,000, that’s shown enough feedback that citizens of Prince Albert are more than happy to help out,” Dziadyk said.

Since 1954, firefighters around Canada have teamed up with Muscular Dystrophy Canada to fundraise.

The final numbers are in and the fundraiser brought in $3,460. On top of the money raised by fire fighters; Malcolm Jenkins is matching the amount. This makes the grand total $6,920.
