6 new Sask. highway cameras launched
Drivers in Saskatchewan will have six more ways to check out highway conditions before heading out on the road.
Six new roadside cameras can now be viewed on the Saskatchewan Highway Hotline website. The additions were first announced in November 2013 and were finally up and running by Wednesday morning.
“We take pride in providing timely road information to travellers, and these new tools will help motorists with their route planning,” said Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner in a statement.
The Highway Department installed and activated the new road cameras over the last several months during major construction projects. The department said the cameras will eventually help alert drivers about collisions and spills. There is also an alert ribbon planned to be added to display weather warnings, amber alerts and other warnings.
