Broadway North Summer Intensive 2014

Come and stretch your artistic talent and have a great time this summer. This 5 day Performing Arts camp will be held at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan from August 11 to 15. Students will take classes in singing, acting and dance showcasing their talent in a show onstage at the end of the week. A detailed daily schedule will be provided upon registration. Lunch hour will be supervised with the students bringing their own lunches to eat at the Rawlinson centre.

Registrations will be accepted up to the first day of camp.
Junior (ages 6-8)
This half day program will start the morning with a Warm Up on the Main Stage and then features a singing class, dance class, and a children’s theatre class. Classes will begin at 9:00 am and finish at noon. The children’s classes will be included in the performance at the end of the week on the Main Stage
Tuition $150.00 +GST = $157.50
Intermediate (9-12) and Senior (13+up)

This full day program will begin at 9:00am with a combined warm up onstage and then be split into the various age groups for classes. Included are Singing technique and Music repertoire, Monologue, Scene study and Improvisation techniques, and Dance for Musical Theatre and Choreography. Also included is “Master Class” with a different speciality each day. Classes will finish at 5:00pm. The week will conclude with a performance on the Main Stage on Friday afternoon.

Faculty
Gillian McCaffery
Gillian has been teaching for over 20 years in Saskatchewan and Ontario. In 1996, Gillian and her husband, Darren, founded The Performing Arts Warehouse, A performing arts studio which offers ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, and musical theatre and drama to over 500 students. In 1998, Gillian and Darren were awarded the Samuel McLeod Business award for Best New Product and Service.
Gillian directs and choreographs for the Broadway North Theatre Company with over 30 musicals and plays to her credit. Recent productions include “Willy Wonka”, “Aladdin”, “Cabaret” and “Footloose”. Gillian has also worked as the Prince Albert Rehearsal Mistress for the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker.
Gillian holds the Teacher’s Diploma from the Royal Academy of Dance, which includes training in Anatomy and Dance History. Gillian is a Member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association- Stage division (Tap & Jazz) and was a former Executive Board member for 4 years.
Gillian has traveled extensively, taking classes from the top industry leaders in dance and theatre. Frank Hatchett from the Broadway Dance Centre, New York; Lynn Simonsen from Dancespace, New York; Jeannie Hill from the Jump-Rhythm-Jazz Project in Chicago; Kimberly Cooper from Decidedly Jazz Danceworks; Bengt Jorgen, and the National Ballet of Canada.
In 2005, Gillian was awarded the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for her contribution to the Arts and in 2006, was the recipient for the YWCA’s Woman of Distinction.
Gillian has travelled throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta working as an Adjudicator for various dance festivals and competitions. She is currently in training to become an Examiner for the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association, Stage Division.
Karen Langlois
Originally from La Ronge, SK, Karen grew up playing the piano and singing with her mom and sister at home and church. Throughout her early years she studied voice and piano with Cheryl Tradewell.
Karen went on to obtain a Bachelor of Music degree with Great Distinction in Vocal Performance from the University of Saskatchewan, studying under Janice Paterson. She is currently a board member of the SRMTA and a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Karen keeps busy maintaining a private voice, piano, theory and history studio of over 50 students, several of whom have received silver medals for their exam work with the Royal Conservatory of Music. She also enjoys singing anthems at St. Alban’s Anglican Cathedral and singing with her own music ministry team at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. She has both directed and accompanied children’s choirs in the past. In the summer, Karen and her husband host an intensive Theory School where students have the opportunity to learn one grade of rudiments in a five-day period.
Musical theatre has always been a great love. Past performing credits include Summer Stock performances of Vi Moore in Footloose, Laurie in Oklahoma, Miss Marian Paroo in The Music Man and Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof. She has also directed the music for Broadway North Theatre Company’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (2008), Aladdin (2007) and Annie (2006). Karen’s most recent acting role has been as the mother, Grace Bradley, in Broadway North’s Christmas production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (2010).
Karen currently resides in Prince Albert with her husband Mike and their cat Abby.
Roxanne Dicke
Roxanne Dicke has been a director and theatre educator for 16 years. Past directing credits include Strawberries in January (Odyssey Productions), Mending Fences (E.A. Rawlinson Centre), Pageant, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Les Belles Soeurs (Keyano Theatre), The Laramie Project, Possible Worlds, How I Learned to Drive, The Trial of Judith K., Home Free (Studio 99). Other credits include Alice, Buried Child and numerous collectives and acting roles. Presently she teaches theatre for First Nations University and University of Saskatchewan. She also taught youth drama for a time at the Performing Arts Warehouse. She is the new Artistic Director for Odyssey Productions.
Before coming to Prince Albert, Roxanne taught drama and directed at Keyano College in Fort McMurray (and was Head of the Drama Program). She was an instructor and director at Grande Prairie Regional College, and Head Acting Instructor at Edna Manley College of Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica. Roxanne was also an acting instructor for Jamaica’s leading youth theatre group, Little People and Teen Players.
Roxanne holds a BFA in Drama in Performance (University of Lethbridge), an MA in Drama (University of Guelph), and a Masters of Teaching (University of Calgary).

Darren McCaffery
A Prince Albertan for over 15 years now, Darren originally hails from Toronto where he was a professional actor. Past credits include lead role of Chris in “Miss Saigon” and the Canadian touring company of “Les Miserables”. Darren was also a member of the World Premiere cast and is featured on the EMI recording of “Napoleon”. Moving to Saskatchewan to play “Tony” in Broadway North’s production of “West Side Story” in 1996, Darren has been dedicated to developing Prince Albert’s local performing arts scene ever since. As a Director and an administrator, Darren has worked extensively for Broadway North, bringing arts programming to young people. He is currently the General Manager at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre.
