Left out: Courtney Struble’s father not informed of case updates

Jul 9, 2014 | 12:21 PM

On the tenth anniversary of her disappearance, Courtney Struble’s father is asking why he wasn’t included in the media update with RCMP and the girl’s mother Tuesday.

“Fine, you think I’m the suspect, but you know, I’m the father. I deserve to know as much as everybody else does,” said Mark Struble the day after speaking exclusively to News Talk Radio.

The 13-year-old girl was living with her dad when she vanished July 9, 2004. Mark says he and Courtney’s mom had split years before and the teen was not getting along with her mother, Joy, at the time.

“Of course, teenage daughter-Mom-you know, all the kids go through it,” said Mark. “My son did the rebelling thing. My daughter was going through it.”

On the night Courtney disappeared, Mark says he and his family were in the midst of moving into a new house; everything was boxed up and that Courtney wanted to spend the night at a friend’s.

Mark says he didn’t know Courtney didn’t arrive back home until the next day. He had to wait 24 hours to report her missing.

“I didn’t know if she was out playing around, partying. Like, I used to do the same thing, you know go for days and then come home days later,” said Struble.

Mark says he believes RCMP still consider him a suspect.

“From what I hear from other witnesses and that, they accused everybody,” said Mark. “They had undercover (officer)s on me, trying to get me to confess to something I never did.”

Mark says he and his family have been left out of the loop for the last five to six years.

“It’s bad when the whole of Saskatchewan knows before the other father knows, let alone his family,” Mark said.

RCMP would not say Tuesday whether they had a suspect or person of interest in the case, but did say they had no one in custody or questioning.
