Man sought for alleged kidnapping caught

Police in Prince Albert have arrested a 30-year-old man who is accused of kidnapping and trying to kill a Montreal Lake Cree Nation woman.

According to the Prince Albert Police and RCMP, Kevin Henderson, of Prince Albert, was arrested early Saturday morning. A Prince Albert Police staff sergeant on duty said Henderson was caught in the 1200 block of 28th Street East without incident.

The staff sergeant said police had been following up on a residence for a couple of days where Henderson was known to have been at previously. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.

He and Shantal Mike, 26, of Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation, allegedly kidnapped 66-year-old Marina Henderson on Monday. According to Montreal Lake Cree Nation Chief Edward Henderson, Marina is Kevin Henderson’s aunt.

Mike’s bail hearing is set for next Friday at the Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Waskesiu Lake RCMP and the Prince Albert Police Service had been looking for Kevin Henderson for several days.

He faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, robbery, two counts of stealing a motor vehicle and three counts of failing to comply with a recognizance.

According to Marina Henderson’s sister, Christina, contacted on Saturday morning, Marina is doing much better and recovering in hospital.
