Best of the Best winners unveiled

After weeks of anticipation and a whopping 400,000 votes, the results of Prince Albert’s Best of the Best are in.

With more than 200 categories, the BOBS recognizes the cities finest in the following areas: shopping and services, arts and entertainment, food and drink, sports and recreation, health, beauty and style and local goodness.

John’s Garden and Gift Centre is the winner of Best Home and Garden Store. Owner Debbie LaHaye was more than excited when she first heard the news, she literally shouted with joy.

“Oh wow, oh my goodness, I’m doing the happy dance,” she said. “It feels wonderful.”

LaHaye said they took full advantage of the opportunity to promote the BOBS at John’s Garden and Gift Centre and utilized all the tools they could to help promote nominations. She said she hopes the nominations and now the win will help attract more customers to their new location at 51-40th Street East.

Miller Contracting Ltd. won for Best Home Builder. General Manager Dan Yungwirth said it was great just to be nominated however he is very pleased and feels pride that they were also chosen as the winner.

“We work hard everyday in doing what we do not really expecting much in the way of rewards or anything like that,” he said. “But when something like this comes along and people out in the community and so on vote for that it’s kind of a nice shot in the arm to say hey we are doing something right here and we should continue doing it, so ya it’s a sense of pride.”

Frontrunner Footwear is the proud winner of Best Locally Owned Store and Best Shoe Store. Owner Debbi Kellett thanked her family, customers and her staff for her win and all their support, she said that without them this win would not have been possible.

“Its feels amazing, actually I am honoured to have won and I am hoping that it was actually in fact a lot of our customers that did vote,” she said.

Dr. Java’s Coffee House who in April won the Newest Venture award at the Samuel McLeod Business Awards is the winner of not one, not two, but three BOB categories including Best Coffee Shop, Best Lunch, and Best New Store.

Owners Brandy and Chad Mogg felt nothing but bliss when they heard the news and thanked the community and paNOW for all their support.

“I think it was really a great thing that you guys did it got the community involved in local business and people as a whole,” said Chad.

paNOW and Rawlco Radio also had a lot of support and nominations behind them for Best of the Best. paNOW.com won for Best Local Website, Neil Headrick won for Best AM Radio Personality, Lew Harrison won for Best FM Radio Personality and Best Media Personality, Power 99 FM won Best Radio Station, Nigel Maxwell won Best Reporter and Trevor and Chelsea won Best Morning Radio Team.

More deserving winners under Prince Albert’s local goodness category include Malcolm Jenkins for Best Citizen and Carol Soles for Best Volunteer.
