Toyota filling a truck to help the food bank

Up to 22,000 people per month in Saskatchewan rely on the food bank to make ends meet.

Over the Christmas season it’s hard for Canadian food banks to provide people with what they need because their supply is depleted, said Toyota’s new car manager, Rob Hemsworth.

There is a significant drop in food and cash donations between January and April, he said. This is why Prairie Toyota dealerships are working together to replenish the shelves at local food banks around Canada.

Frank Dunn Toyota in Prince Albert is having their second annual food drive.

Last year the dealership filled a truck with over 20,000 pounds of food. The goal of the campaign is to collect even more this year to give back to the community.

“Were filling up the back of a truck and it’s almost getting there. The more the merrier will fill up the front of the truck, will fill up two trucks if we have too,” said Hemsworth. He said the dealership has extra incentive for anyone who brings in a non-perishable food item between now and January 7. 

“Come down make a donation, don’t forget to enter to win an all-new 2014 Toyota Tundra 5.7 L V8 4X4 and let’s try to help out best we can,” he explained.

All donations will be brought to the local food bank on January 13.
