PHOTOS: Christmas decorations tradition for St. Louis resident

Dec 22, 2013 | 7:25 AM

St. Louis resident, Larry Smytaniuk, has filled his home, yard and driveway with Christmas decorations. He moved to St. Louis four years ago and each year he decorates his house with more decorations.

“Every year I try to add some extra, try to keep getting it bigger every year,” said Smytaniuk.

Smytaniuk said decorating his house makes the holidays seem more festive for him and his family. He said putting up decorations is a tradition he continued from his childhood.

“Having the times together with the family always together at mom and dad’s place and it was always decorated. You know warm atmosphere, family atmosphere where everybody got together,” said Smytaniuk.

Smytaniuk said that his family alternates who hosts the big Christmas dinner. This means every second year he is excited to have his family over.

“It’s the happy time of the year to be together with family,” he said.

Smytaniuk said besides decorating the house, the holidays are a special time that he spends with his children and grandchildren.

“It’s a special time of year for us. So I like to make it enjoyable for my grandkids.”

Smytaniuk isn’t the only one who goes all out on decorations over the holidays. Many houses around Prince Albert are decked out with lights, ornaments and blow up snowmen.

They will be featured tonight on 900 CKBI’s annual Twinkle Tour tonight.

Those who want to join the tour can meet at the Northern Lights Casino at 6 p.m. They will be led around the city in their vehicles by CKBI’s Don Mitchell and Neil Headrick to the best lit homes.
