Highway 3/55 overpass reopened

Nov 5, 2013 | 4:40 PM

Commuters north of Prince Albert will be happy to hear that the restrictions on the Highway 3/55 overpass have been lifted for regular traffic.

After a semi- tractor trailer struck some of the girders supporting the overpass, officials were forced to shut it down while it was inspected for damage.

The bridge has now been reopened, but will be restricted to one lane in either direction to keep traffic from putting weight on the damaged girders.

Overweight traffic is not permitted to use the overpass at this point in time and will still be forced to use the specific detours.

The detours for overweight traffic are as follows:

Heavy Truck Traffic Northbound from Prince Albert to Hwy 3/55 Westbound

Travel over the Diefenbaker Bridge and take the Highway 55 east off ramp, proceed eastbound on Highway 55 a short distance, and take the next left, to follow the existing designated Truck Detour Route. Use Central Avenue NW, turn west onto 15 St NW, turn south onto Highway 2. Take the Highway 3/55 westbound access ramp.

Highway 55 Westbound, East of Highway 2, to Hwy 55 West of Highway 2

Turn at the signs and follow the existing designated Truck Detour Route. Use Central Avenue NW, turn west onto 15th St NW, turn south onto Highway 2. Take the Highway 3/55 westbound access ramp.

Heavy Truck Traffic Eastbound from Hwy 55 West of Highway 2

east on Whitestar Road, and travel east 5 km, cross Highway 2 North and proceed another 7 km (12km in total), until the Pulp Haul Road is reached. Turn right (southeast) on Pulp Haul Road and proceed to Highway 55 East.
