RM of Corman Park fires police chief

Sep 25, 2013 | 12:17 PM

The head of the police service in the RM of Corman Park has been fired after he refused to take part in an investigation relating to his conduct.

Ron Boechler, who has been the police chief for the rural municipality since 2010, was asked to meet with Prince Albert police in August. Through his legal counsel, he refused the request last week and was fired.

Mitchell Holash, legal counsel for the Corman Park Board of Police Commissioners, said he advised the RM of Corman Park to make the firing public.

“There are matters that become important to come into the public domain to make sure the general public maintains confidence in the police service,” he said.

The board based its decision to terminate Boechler with cause based on his failure to comply with the lawful directions of the board during the course of the investigation.

“We want to make sure we are emphasizing that Mr. Boechler was not terminated with respect to any of the matters that were under investigation,” Holash said.

The investigation has been going on since June. Details regarding the complaint that was lodged earlier this year have not been released.

In February, Boechler went on medical leave. In April, he was put on administrative leave.

Boechler is a school board trustee for the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools.
