Visitor restrictions at Nipawin’s Pineview Lodge

Sep 13, 2013 | 10:36 AM

The Kelsey Trail Health Region is reporting a respiratory outbreak among long-term care resident at Pineview Lodge in Nipawin.

On Sept. 11 symptoms associated with respiratory illness including cough and nasal discharge, first started to appear and now include five residents.
As a result of the outbreak visitors of the facility are being restricted and activities are being cancelled.

“Though there have not been influenza cases in the region, other viruses are circulating in communities. People may carry the virus without being symptomatic and can transfer it to others,” said Dr. Mohammad Khan, Medical Health Officer for the Kelsey Trail Health Region in a news release. “Proper hand washing with warm water and soap for at least 24-30 seconds is one of the most effective means of preventing the spread of communicable diseases.”

Anyone with questions concerning the restrictions are asked to call the facility.
