UPDATED: Valley Ford dealership in Hague ‘gutted’ by flames

There is clean up underway at a car dealership in Hague Thursday morning after an intense fire the night before.

The Valley Ford dealership went up in flames at around 6 p.m. Wedneday night. Within two hours, the inside was completely gutted.

“We thought we had it under control and then it got into the ceiling,” said Hague Fire Chief Jim Heinbigner.

“We knew we couldn't handle it ourselves, so we ended up calling Rosthern. From there were called Laird with the tanker. And then I called Warman to come with their tanker and also their pumper,” added Heinbiger.

The loss is a big one to the community, upwards of 50 people from the town and the surrounding area work at the dealership.

The business had been undergoing renovations but it's not clear if that had anything to do with the cause of the fire.

Witnesses a few blocks away at the Bigway grocery store said they saw the sky full of black smoke. Meanwhile, people like Joe Lockhart stopped to watch.

“The whole central core of the building is going, the side of building is going, Lockhart said Wednesday evening.

“There are flames shooting 30 to 40 feet in the air and the smoke cloud is a couple hundred feet in the air. It's toast.”

Lockhart said there were charred supplies littered about the property.
