UPDATED: Record turnout for Summit Run
Despite a soggy, windy morning a record number of competitors came out for Prince Albert’s ninth annual Summit Run on Saturday.
This year, 612 runners and walkers participated in the event. Of those, 84 took part in the half marathon which is almost double the amount from last year.
Gary Newell from Saskatoon clocked the fastest time in the 21 km distance this year, coming across the finish line after about one hour and 21 minutes.
Newell said he was able to overcome far from ideal conditions, including heavy rain in the early part of the race and a stiff head wind for the last several kms.
