West Flat celebrates 6th annual community Pow Wow
The West Flat area in Prince Albert gathered at Westview Community Public School on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate their sixth annual community Pow Wow.
For the last six years the five schools throughout the West Flat have hosted the Pow Wow, which features drummers, dancers and hoop dancers from each of the schools.
Westview Community School co-ordinator Nicole Marud is one of the members of the West Flat Pow Wow committee.
“This is one of the biggest events that we hold throughout the year. A lot of our kids, our students as well as families, participate in pow wow and some don’t, so this is also a way for students who aren’t always exposed to it to be exposed to the celebration and so they get to dance. So they practice throughout the year in the schools, drumming and dancing, and this is a way for them to showcase what they’ve learned,” Marud said.
