Virtue to represent Saskatchewan at Brier

Brock Virtue of the Regina Callie Curling Club will be tasked with ending Saskatchewan's Brier drought.

The eighth seeded rink upset the number two seed, Bruce Korte of Saskatoon 6-4 Sunday in the championship final of the SaskTel Men's Tankard in Melfort.

Korte had beaten Virtue in the A vs B page playoff game Saturday night 6-4 to advance into the championship final while Virtue dropped into the semi-final against Kevin Marsh who won the C1 vs C2 page playoff against Steve Laycock 8-5. Virtue defeated Marsh 8-6 Sunday morning in the semi-final to move into the final.

Korte headed into the final unbeaten after winning the “A” event with four straight wins including the “A” final over Josh Heidt 11-8. Virtue defeated Heidt in the “B” final 5-3 to advance into the playoffs. Meanwhile Heidt lost a third qualifying game losing to Marsh 8-7 in the “C” final. Laycock made the playoff round by defeating Brad Heidt 7-6 in the other “C” final Saturday.
