High stakes make for high stress at the men’s Tankard
Curling is a gentlemen's sport, but even the president of the Saskatchewan Curling Association admits the ice isn't always a friendly place.
“A lot of banging brooms on the ice and swearing (happens),” said Barry Whitehouse, “we've had some instances this year in both our northern and southern playdowns where people were taking their kids out of the building because this was going on.”
Although it happens, Whitehouse says the outbursts aren't welcome at the family-friendly bonspiels.
People are now talking about how Chris Schille was ejected from a match at the SaskTel Men's Tankard this past weekend in Meltfort. The second on Brock Virtue's team apparently kicked a rock into the corner after a play made by Virtue. Schille had been given warnings earlier about some inappropriate behavior. Schille was allowed to return for his team's next game and Team Virtue went on to win the Tankard against Bruce Korte 6-4.
