Gourmet chef Kevin Tetz gave the gift of an elegant four-course dinner to the ladies at the Prince Albert Safe Shelter for Women.

Tetz said he was inspired and felt it was important to donate his time and provide a meal at this time of the year.

“I decided to put on my Facebook, anybody interested if I give back, and Carol Soles, (executive director of women’s shelter) answered, as well as a couple other families,” said Tetz.

Sherry McNabb, assistant director of the women’s shelter, said everyone was looking forward to being treated to a gourmet meal.

“He just volunteered to do a home cooked meal for us. He’s coming in to treat our ladies like that queens that they are, and just give them a day, some recognition,” said McNabb.

“They’re very excited to have a home-cooked meal. It’s a lot of stuff they’ve never been able to try before so they’re pretty excited about it,” she added.

Following the dinner, Tetz mentioned on Facebook that he would like to provide a meal three times a year to the shelter.

“(I am giving) my art of cooking. I was taught cooking, everybody knows me for that so I can give that back. A meal you don’t forget,” said Tetz.

He also mentioned he would like other chefs to do something similar of offering the gift of a “culinary adventure.”

“I challenge other chefs and restaurants to do something like this, to give back in cooking form,” said Tetz.

Brenda Lee Pellerin, child support services coordinator at the shelter, said the ladies got dressed up for the dinner and were excited for the dinner, but were still surprised at the outcome.

“The ladies were so excited that the food wasn’t even on the table yet and they were all taking pictures of it, it was so elegant,” said Pellerin.

On Tetz’s offer of cooking a gourmet meal for the shelter three times over the year, Pellerin said the staff at the shelter are excited at the opportunity, and for them to receive such a compelling gift for the women.

“We think that’s an awesome thing for him to want to do for us. We want our ladies here to feel very empowered and special, and I think that was a perfect fit for them,” said Pellerin.
