Sunday Dec. 9 the Rural Municipality of Prince Albert No. 461 turned 100.

To commemorate the occasion a come and go tea was held at the Municipal Centennial Building Council Chambers.

Norma Sheldon, Reeve of the RM of Prince Albert said it is amazing to see where the RM was 100 years ago compared to where it stands today.

“When you look at where you have been you see the fortitude and the strength that it took to do the things that were done years ago to settle this land, we have made so much progress,” she said.

“When I look at the map from 1916 the names that are on that map are still some of the names that are that map today, we have a long history of people who have been in the RM for a long time.”

Sheldon said the RM has even continued to grow in size over the years, which for most RM’s is rare.

“The census of 2011 was released this spring and we saw a 22 per cent increase in our population (from 2006 census) and we are at just over 3500 people in the RM of Prince Albert now,” she said.

“A lot of the rural municipalities are losing their population, there is a lot of out migrations but if you look at our geography we sit by a major centre, we have river, we have good farm land, and we are twinning our highways and getting a new bridge to St. Louis.”
