Counterfeit corn is making its way into Saskatoon

You've probably seen those signs at the side of the road enticing you to pull over and buy “Fresh Taber Corn”.

But while it's being passed off as Taber grown corn, not all of it being sold at the side of the road is the real thing.

Corn Growers Association President in Alberta, David Jensen, said he isn't pleased with those who are selling illegitimate corn under the Taber brand name.

He's taking steps to protect corn consumers from counterfeit kernels. He now issues a certificate with the
sale of Taber corn.

“And it has out phone number on it. It gives permission to sell it with the Taber Corn Growers Association logo. So that's how we're trying to police it. I'm a long way from Saskatoon,” said Jensen.

Jensen thinks some of the corn being passed off as Taber corn could actually be from California.

Here in Saskatoon one of the legit sellers of Taber corn is Moody Green Grocers.
