Glamping trend hitting close to home

A new fad is hitting close to home for Prince Albert with the newest camping craze called “glamping.”

According to Karen Wasylyk, owner of Flora Bora Forest Lodging, a glamping destination, this new craze is a combination of glamour and camping.

Flora Bora is located outside of Christopher Lake and Emma Lake.

Wasylyk and her husband thought of their concept for glamping while travelling through South East Asia over nine years ago and was their dream ever since.

The husband and wife duo created two huts or yurts called Betty and Yeti.

Each yurt has a different décor and layout, but both have a queen size bed, a kitchen, private deck and nature trails right outside the front door.

“People have been enjoying the yurts, they’ve been liking the ease of it, they like that you’re right into nature but you have all the comforts of home. It’s been great for people, and [my husband and I] are enjoying it too,” Wasylyk said.

Flora Bora Forest Lodging was opened last June and Wasylyk said they have seen an increase in number of people interested in the new fad because of how easy it is.

“We try to offer as many things to get you outside and enjoying nature, like bikes, canoes, and things like that to get people outside enjoying nature,” Wasylyk said.

This summer Flora Bora has been busy and is booked up until the end of August.

The duo is keeping the yurts open over the winter this year to expand for four seasons because it is beautiful here all year long.

During the winter they will be offering things like snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

“When you’re in nature you can’t help but to feel good and some people don’t want to set up a tent or they don’t want to be climbing out of their tent in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. They just want to be able to show up and have everything there and then they can just relax as soon as their there, without the work,” said Wasylyk.

The pair leaves comment books in each room for visitors to share their experiences and Wasylyk said many people write about how much they appreciate the small things.

While staying in the yurt guests are treated to Free Trade coffee, robes, high thread count sheets and so much more.

There is even a garden for guests to pick fresh fruit or vegetables.

Over the summer this year Flora Bora was the host of two weddings, and Wasylyk said they even have other couple interested in doing weddings next year.

Wasylyk has two dogs on the property that tend to keep an eye on the guests.

One of the dogs even helped guide a little girl who was lost in the forest back to the yurts and her parents.
