First day of match play in books at Lobstick

It’s been a great last couple of weeks on the links for Prince Albert golfer Greg Swenson.

After winning the May Day Masters tournament at the age of 25, Swenson is making a name for himself this week at the Conexus Men’s Lobstick.

He put together two solid scores of 70, 71 in the Lobstick Open to finish fifth overall while also qualifying for the Championship Flight match play.

On Wednesday, Swenson needed only 11 holes to capture his first match play win over Calgary’s John Thorpe.

Halfway through the week, things are going Swenson’s way.

“I’m definitely feeling comfortable right now,” said Swenson, 25. “I think the course suits my game well, it favours players that are straight off the tee and good with their wedges and those are strengths in my game.”

That being said, there’s still a ton more golf to be played. Swenson’s aware of that, but also looking forward to the upcoming challenges.

“I’m getting really excited for the rest of the tournament,” said Swenson. “The course is looking great and there’s still lots of great competitors left.”

Swenson will face Blair Sterling from High River, AB on Thursday, weather permitting.

Two other PA golfers won their championship flight matches as Ashley Ziegeman beat Fort Qu’Appelle’s Joshua Johns and Martin Ring beat Riley Chilliak of Saskatoon.

Regina’s Cadmus Delorme, who won the Lobstick Open on Tuesday, beat Delisle’s Colin Coben, who won the Senior Men’s Lobstick last week.
