Prince Albert Co-op reports strong year

The Prince Albert Co-op enjoyed one of the most successful years since opening its doors in 1940.

“Certainly in the top three best years that Prince Albert Co-op has ever had,” said general manager Dave Marchant who attributed the success to a number of things.

“We had a very good agro year, our brand new food store is doing very well, and our member support was awesome this year.”

While the opening the new food store in Cornerstone was a big highlight for Co-op, the project also depleted its cash reserves, Marchant said.

Twelve-million dollars was spent on the Cornerstone retail and food store development and Marchant said the next couple of years will be spent on rebuilding its cash reserves.

“We don’t have any major projects going on this year. Next year we’re putting a brand new $1-million bulk fuel storage site in Shellbrook.”

Members also reaped the benefits of a strong year, earning back $4-million on their purchases.

The Prince Albert Co-op is a member owned Co-operative, serving 11 communities in the area.
