Wesmor School makes graduating affordable, fashionable

Apr 27, 2012 | 6:42 AM

Students became models at Wesmor Community School on Apr. 26.

The Prince Albert High School held a fashion show to display grad dresses that could be purchased at an affordable price.

Businesses and community members donated the dresses and the school had them professionally dry cleaned.

They were then offered to the students, who may be on a tight budget.

“We turn around and sell them for $25, affordable grad gifts,” said Kathy Nagy, a teacher at Wesmor School.

This was important for Wesmore student Gabriele Bell who, like others, saw how expensive grad could be.

“I don’t think I could come up with $500 for a grad dress so that’s pretty awesome that they’re selling them for cheap,” Bell said. She’s picked one of the dresses from the show that she said she hoped to buy for grad.

The fashion show in itself was an opportunity for Wesmor’s Grade 12 students to have a little fun.

Chenoa Waditaka was one of the student models. She wore five different dresses throughout the event, and said she wouldn’t mind continuing to hit the runway with a modelling career.

“It was fun, I loved it so much,” she said. “I was nervous, but I just had fun with it.”

Wesmor High School has been selling $25 grad dresses for the past three years.
