Grand re-opening of Nipawin’s Centennial Arena

Feb 6, 2012 | 9:24 PM

After a two year process, Nipawin’s Centennial and Jubilee Arena complex finally got to hold their grand re-opening.

Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback, Carrot River Valley MLA Fred Bradshaw and Nipawin Mayor Lawrence Rospad were in attendance and participated in the ribbon cutting, right before a minor hockey game on Saturday.

In 2009 the town of Nipawin applied for funding to help upgrade their Centennial and Jubilee Arena.

After receiving funding through the federal and provincial governments upgrades began in the fall of 2010 and was completed in the summer of 2011.

Upgrades to the building included new siding and insulation, roofing, installing energy-efficient dehumidification, and ventilation, along with upgrades to the heating and lighting.

The town also helped pay for extra upgrades, including renovating the lobby and kitchen, and installing new signage.

All the work done helped bring the complex up to code and will help extend the life of the building for decades to come.
