paNOW’s Top 10 Sports Stories for 2011; Crusaders beat St. Mary’s in annual football clash

A thriller in the annual high school football showdown has made our list of the top ten sports stories of 2011.

It was week two of the high school football season when Carleton and St. Mary met in their annual clash at Prime Minister’s Park.

The Crusaders had ended a 17 game losing streak the week before in its season opener while the Marauders had a first week bye.

St. Mary would storm out to a 13-0 lead in the first half which included a touchdown from Travis Sjogren but the Crusaders would complete the comeback to hold on for a 14-13 win.

They got majors from wide receiver Aaron Jensen and running back Jordan Gabriel-Cannon, who also rushed for 96 yards.

Bryant Sackney led the Marauders ground attack with 99 yards.

Carleton would hit its peak with a 10-9 overtime win over St. Joes in the playoffs following a five 5-2 regular season.

The Marauders who went 3-4 pulled off the upset of the year beating Aden Bowman 12-7.

Both tea,ms would go on to lose their semi-final games.
