Youth Selected for Northern Spirit Showcase

ATHABASCA NORTHERN SPIRITS SHOWCASE PRINCE ALBERT – SK On November 18-20, 2011, eighty-eight youth participated in the 5th Annual Northern Spirits Workshop, held at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre in Prince Albert. Northern Spirits is a music, arts and personal development program for northern Saskatchewan youth.

Participants aged 12-18 enjoyed three days of sessions including live band, introduction to broadcasting and MBC studio tour, introduction to iphotography, instrument clinics at Mosaic Studios for returning youth, a producer and stage manager/stage hands session, a session on bullying, how to be an emcee, as well as a special guest performance and presentation from Derek Miller!

It also included two “Open Stage/Mini-Concert” events on Friday and Saturday evenings – a chance for the northern youth to show their talents.

At the conclusion of the weekend, organizers made the difficult decisions choosing the youth to produce and perform their own Points Athabasca Northern Spirits Showcase on February 18th, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre, part of Voices of the North and the Prince Albert Winter Festival.

The youth will be mentored by Voices of the North in all aspects of producing and performing at the showcase.
