Jail-N-Bail event ready for another year

Oct 2, 2011 | 12:00 PM

After a year hiatus, the Canadian Cancer Society in Prince Albert is preparing for another Jail-N-Bail event in the city.

“We’re looking forward to it again this year,” said Laurie Dent, branch manager in Prince Albert.

The event didn’t happen in 2010 because the society wanted to give donors a break after such a huge and successful Relay for Life in that year, she said.

But, now they are back with new ideas and lots of enthusiasm.

“Volunteers and the people who go in, always seem to have a good time,” Dent said.

The theme this year is Drive Away Cancer and the most wanted list are representatives from seven car dealerships. These most wanted will be arrested and taken to Gateway Mall on Oct. 20, where their friends and family will “bail” them out of “jail” with donations to the cancer society.

People are welcome to have friends, family members, co-workers and bosses arrested as well, said Dent. People can call and get warrants set up by calling 764-4808.

People can make long distance calls while in “jail” and get their friends and relatives from all over the country to make a donation, she said.

When the event first began in Saskatchewan, there were many Jail-N-Bail’s held throughout the province. Then it was only Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert, said Dent.

“And this year, it’s just Prince Albert,” she said.

“It’s just the community seems to enjoy this event to that’s why we continue with it.”

Along with cancer society volunteers, who help people make donations, employees from  Parkland Ambulance paramedics volunteer as the keystone cops that arrest the most wanted and others.
