Saskatchewan Forks trail closed

Making a trip to the Saskatchewan River forks is getting more difficult.

The road leading to the forks has been slowly eroding away and access has finally been shut down.

A portion of the road began to fall down the bank earlier this year, and it has only gotten worse with the recent rainfall, said Coun. Ted Hradec.

“It’s always been rather dangerous going out there, there are no guard rails or anything,” said Hradec.

“But it has only become a hazard this spring when the actual road started to wash away. It’s probably been going on for a while, but it only reached the road this year.”

Hradec said there is no timetable for when the road will re-open again, as council is still in the planning stages. Easements must first be obtained from the local landowner and then the road will be rebuilt further from the bank.
