The Saskatchewan government says a critical first step is being taken to transform the child welfare system.
The province has signed two letters of understanding with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and the Metis Nation pledging to make changes.
Social Services Minister June Draude says it starts with better communication.
“So when we talk about working differently with First Nations, we will have our front line workers … talking and saying, 'Is this the right thing to do?'” said Draude.
