Tough opening round for local golfer at nationals

Prince Albert golfer David Stewart bogeyed four of his first five holes, but settled down to register a +5 after Day 1 of the Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship in Winnipeg.

Stewart is tied with many for 133rd place out of 239 golfers with a 76.

On the day, Stewart had two birdies, seven bogies and nine pars.

With his 76, Stewart sits 11 strokes back of the leader, T.J. Bordeaux of Tacoma, WA who shot a -6, 65. Bordeaux registered three eagles on the day to secure his spot in first place.
