Some upset over reserve-a-site system at Sask. parks

If you can’t get a campsite in Saskatchewan, the province is working on it.

This year, Saskatchewan Parks increased their amount of reserve-a-sites. But the Ministry of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport has been getting complaints from people squeezed out the system.

Minister Bill Hutchinson says they're in the midst of finding a balance.

“There were a few concerns but there were also a lot of people phoning and e-mailing, saying, ‘What a great idea.’”

At Cypress Hills, 75 per cent of sites are can be reserved and at Danielson and Douglas Parks it's 100 per cent. Hutchinson says they're still testing the idea and things won't likely change this season.

“I think it’s difficult to change on the fly. We can make some small adjustments but the big thing is to review the results after.”

One of the major complaints is that with bookings made way back in January sites can be reserved and then go on to sit empty.
