Chief responds to standoff

A police investigation continues after a standoff yesterday on a Saskatchewan First Nation.

It happened on the Kinistin First Nation, near Tisdale. Police were initially told a woman had been stabbed. They would later find a 24-year-old woman had been assaulted, but not stabbed.

The four-hour standoff ended peacefully when four men were arrested. No charges have been laid at this time.

“What I hear from a couple band members is that they are pretty shaken by what they had seen, like with the guns drawn and the police dogs. We have called the tribal council to come out and do some counselling for these people,” said Kinistin Chief Albert Scott.
